But sometimes we need to drown to remember how to breathe. "Get Sunk" is the cleansing inhalation. It's the sight of the undulating reflection in the water and the realization that you are not yourself without a thousand others: parents, friends, siblings, spouses and exes, college roommates, childhood best friends, cousins, even strangers-all of which comprise the mind of "Get Sunk's" narrator. Berninger wanted to explore why he loves what he does, and it's the collaborative spirit of the album and the loose, unfolding attitude that made Berninger look up and feel the warmth on his face.
